So many people on this post are like “they’re just trying to get a sale. You’re just paranoid.”
I’ve worked in retail sales for many moons. At the particular places where I worked we had a 10-10 rule (or something similar) “greet withing 10 seconds/and or 10 feet”. Being attentive to customers, being readily available to answer any questions or assisting them is absolutely what we employees are supposed to do. However, literally following them the entire trip through the store is NOT what we’re supposed to do. That’s smothering. That’s bothersome. That’s desperate.
“Can i be of assistance?” “No thanks I’m just looking” “ok *insert sale reminder* if you need anything, let me know. my name is ___” then carry your ass away a little bit. Help another customer, clean something, recover, Absolutely keep your sales antenna tuned so you’re aware of the customer, but don’t go breathing down their necks. That shit’s uncomfortable.
the entire point of tony stark’s character arc is to show that people can change, learn from their past, and become a hero despite their mistakes;;; but antis are still living in 2008 in the first ten mins of IM1 as if the rest of the mcu doesn’t exist lmfao im done
“But then Ocasio-Cortez spoke, followed by Bush, and I saw something
truly terrifying. I saw just how easy it would be, were I less involved
and less certain of our nation’s founding and its history, to fall for
the populist lines they were shouting from that stage.
I saw how easy it would be, as a parent, to accept the idea that my children deserve healthcare and education.
I
saw how easy it would be, as someone who has struggled to make ends
meet, to accept the idea that a “living wage” was a human right.
Above
all, I saw how easy it would be to accept the notion that it was the
government’s job to make sure that those things were provided.”
You guys, the Daily Caller just published the funniest thing I have ever read in my entire life. It is literally an article where a conservative is just terrified to death that they nearly felt empathy and love.
This article is like the biggest proof I have ever read that conservatives are just pathologically afraid of kindness.
There’s… not even a punchline. Like, the article concludes just a few lines after the quoted section, with no suggestion for why anyone SHOULDN’T support things like universal healthcare. Not even a token “but, you know, the money,” or “but you have to EARN it.” It just ends.
I guess the audience is expected to fill in the blanks? Like “gosh, I almost cared about an unrelated human being, but CLEARLY the very concept is absurd.” Which is… pretty sad, honestly.
I’m telling you, at least according to this article, it is literally just terrifying to think that your kids deserve healthcare and education.
Hot take: Despite both being middle aged white men wearing super suits, Tony Stark and Scott Lang are polar opposites because Tony is repeatedly given chances to make the right choice, screws up, and remains unharmed by the narrative. Scott, meanwhile, consistently actively chooses the right thing (stealing stolen cash from the company he worked for, joining Captain America’s team in Germany, going back into the quantum zone for the particles to heal Ava) at personal and familial cost, and always ends up imprisoned or trapped.
Wait… in what universe is Tony “untouched” by the narrative?
The man suffers from PTSD. There was an entire movie dedicated to his psychological breakdown.
His relationship has suffered ups and downs (he and Pepper were on a “time out” in CA:CW).
As of his last film appearance, he’s currently light-years from home having watched everyone around him die after getting stabbed in the chest by a genocidal grape.
Are we watching the same movies?
(Also are we seriously calling Scott’s house arrest “imprisonment”? Yeah, it sucks, but seriously? He spent that time playing fun games with his daughter and learning card tricks. Dude was fine.)
“unharmed by the narrative”
Is that what the kids are calling the accidental creation of a murderbot because some ex-villain triggered your ptsd and made you believe all your friends were gonna die and it’d be all your fault? Or the subsequent fallout that caused your team to split, your best friend to become paralysed (because you let things spiral out of control) and ultimately ruined one of your most vital friendships beyond repair? Or having the death of a 16-year-old on your conscience because despite all the preparations you realised too late that you weren’t ready to face the boogeyman who’s been on your mind for six years?
“unharmed by the narrative” is going to be my new go-to euphemism for “absolutely fucked (in-the-unpleasant-fashion) by the narrative.” Like this reach flabbergasts me. Tony has to go down as one of the characters most damaged by the MCU – hence all the “let this man rest” memes about him.
I love Scott Lang very dearly, but all that happened was he faced the legal consequences of his actions. That’s the kind of shit that happens when you go to a foreign country and destroy an airport. Honestly he got off easy.
Dhhdsjjsja ARE WE JUST REALLY FORGETTING HOW HE WAS KIDNAPPED AND TORTURED BY TERRORISTS AS HIS FUCKING ORIGIN STORY JESUS CHRIST WHAT A COLD TAKE
But you know? We can actually draw an excellent parallel with Scott Lang.
Because when tony fucks up, it’s never illegal. It’s always a moral fuck up, that we (and the narrative) condemn and as such he always faces consequences that fit that fuck up, but are always outside of the law.
Scott on the other hand, only fucks up in the legal sense, and in the moral sense he’s usuuuually always 100% okay. Which is why he only faces legal repercusions.
The thing is tho!!!! Is that the line between morality and legality are blurred. Tony will fuck up in a way we find immoral (building Ultron for example) but it will come from a virtuous place (wanting to protect the world from thanos). Meanwhile with Scott we’re exposed to a lot of “this is technically legal but it’s not right” so even when he breaks a law it comes from a place of “this is an unjust law”.
Anyways op is annoying with the bland ass iron man readings but there is something here we can discuss when it comes to consequences
this man asked if its okay to buy an engagement ring with a skull on it and antoni went through every stage of grief in the background within about four seconds
