Dangnabit. 3 years later and I still feel the same way

I hate mcu’s CW. Hate. It.

I just saw a post that started with someone saying they sided with Tony during CACW. Someone else, of course, came along condescendingly saying that Tony’s side was wrong (it was the tone that needled me), and op defended their stance. I’m a nosey shit so I read some of the notes (why am I so stupid) and ran across several “neither side was 100% right but I still sided with Cap because–” and I got aggravated.

In the films, there were 2 issues. Item 1) noone should have unchecked power, even the good guys as they are still fallible beings who can accidentally do shit wrong. Accountability should be a thing. Item 2) Greedy mofos can AND WILL do all kinds of vile shit including, but not limited to, discriminating against and trying to control ppl they don’t like. They also can have no want of helping people. I’m being generous because the mcu forgot to show discrimination against enhanced as a plot point. Cw was 14 movies in, there is no reason I should have to do homework (watch the tv series) to get something that was so vital to the doggone plot. If they didn’t care enough to make sure it was set up in the films, then I’m not counting it.

One side’s primary issue tackled was item 1, but we were shown where they were at least open to try to fix the current plan for item 1 by acknowledging item 2 was a thing. The other side’s ONLY issue tackled was item 2.

Because both items are important – item 1 affects the ppl the Avengers wanna help in the first place, item 2 affects the Avengers personally – I’m confused how people can go: “We weren’t meant to pick a side because both issues are valid and like real life, everything is nuanced but I still side with the group that was only shown to tackle one of those issues.” I really don’t get it. Unless they’re owning a bias in the process “I generally like one character more so I’m gonna go with him regardless,” I really don’t understand.

Was there a deleted scene or something where the filmmakers showed anyone of team C so much as imply “maybe we could try to do better by the people”? All I heard was “we try our best but we can’t save everyone” and there was a bit about if they ‘give up maybe next time no one gets saved’. Without a version of ‘we can/want to do better’ tacked on, I’m left feeling like they aren’t going to TRY.

…and to make it worse, they aren’t going to have to. I fully believe the only reason that stupid movie was done in the first place was to introduce Holy Hell Yet Another Reboot of the Same Spidey and “Mainstream” Audiences Probably Aren’t Going To Watch His Movie If We Don’t Tie Him To The “Mainstream Looking” Characters First (but people watched Random Ass Heroes in Space and Magic Is An Acid Trip without prompting though -_-…) There was also the added bonus of drama that hinged upon the breaking up of a friendship they forgot to fully establish in the first place. Good goodness I’m irked.

I want to say that the line in IW where Tony suggests taking the fight off planet to save casualties would be indicator that the Avengers are trying to do better about watching out for casualties, but nah. That’s just Tony doing what he’d already been trying to do, what he was so keen on doing in CW. I want to say that T’Challa evacuating the Wakandans who weren’t going to fight was evidence of The Avengers trying to do better about casualties, but again nope. T’Challa was also already on the give-a-fuck side (because really, wasn’t his stance ‘accountability is needed but politics suck and blow’?). The Avengers who needed to be better about item 1 still haven’t been shown to do that yet.

I’m so irritated. I didn’t mean for this to turn into a full-on rant but oh well…

I’m a grumpy little bish today.

Is it really that hard to write “you felt flush” or “you felt your face grow warm”? Why is it always “you felt your face turn red”? Even if I was of a complexion where I could visably turn red and I was aware of the likelihood that I would turn red whenever my face got hot, I’m still not FEELING myself turn a certain color. I’m FEELING my face get hot.

I mean, bless y’all for writing fics in the first place. But if you’re writing one that’s supposed to be literally anybody, can you make yourself a little sticky note? That for it to anybody you have to keep descriptions of skin color or skin color changes out of it?

Describing turning pink/red when embarrassed, angry, or just generally overheated = only certain people

Describing the change in temperature of the body, the feeling of getting warmer = anyone

Describing turning white if one grips something hard, if one is cold, or if one is scared = only certain people

Describing gripping something so hard it henders blood flow, describing feeling the face go numb in the chill, saying that blood drained from the face = anyone

Black Women in Sequence: Re-inking Comics, Graphic Novels, and Anime ( 2015)

By Deborah Elizabeth Whaley

“Black Women in Sequence takes readers on a search for women of African descent in comics subculture. From the 1971 appearance of the Skywald Publications character “the Butterfly” – the first Black female superheroine in a comic book – to contemporary comic books, graphic novels, film, manga, and video gaming, a growing number of Black women are becoming producers, viewers, and subjects of sequential art.

As the first detailed investigation of Black women’s participation in comic art, Black Women in Sequence examines the representation, production, and transnational circulation of women of African descent in the sequential art world. In this groundbreaking study, which includes interviews with artists and writers, Deborah Whaley suggests that the treatment of the Black female subject in sequential art says much about the place of people of African descent in national ideology in the United States and abroad.”
