Guys, PLEASE… take a look at what is happening in Brazil right now. Google it, ask me on my inbox, but please, share and let the rest of the world know what is happening right now and how serious it is.
Last Sunday, a neo-fascist candidate got 46% of votes in our presidential elections, making him the most voted candidate. Thankfully our system says a candidate needs 50%+1 of the votes to get elected, and we are going to have a second election in two weeks, but this is already really bad.
This man, Jair Bolsonaro, is a far-right, ex-military conservative candidate, who allied himself with the military and the ultra conservative Christian churches of Brazil to campaign for the ‘traditional family and morality’.
This man is absolutely unfit to lead – not only for his lack of knowledge or abilities (he said on an interview that he doesn’t need to understand about economy or diplomacy to be a president, he’ll have people for that) – but because his whole campaign is based on hatred towards black and indigenous people, women, lgbtq+ people and the poor, and he urges the population to act on their prejudice.
On Sunday, after the results, a black man was murdered for saying he voted against him. The murderer screamed “Hail Bolsonaro” after he was done. Another man tried to push a lesbian girl on the trails of the subway, yelling the same thing (the girl survived). The police cuffed and pointed a gun at a coworker’s relative, just because he was parking on a street known for being a meeting point for leftists. A fucker harassed ME on the line to vote, rubbing his pelvis against my butt. A couple was kicked out of their friend’s house on my uncle’s street by neighbors who didn’t want a gay couple in their starter.
This man is giving power to this kind of people to act on their prejudice, just like Trump did in the US. Yet, I see no one outside of Brazil care.
I am scared for the safety of our people, and I don’t know what to do. All I do is cry.
