His alcoholism, his considerable vices, and his recklessness- what Robert Downey Jr.’s onscreen Tony called his laundry list of character defects- are a misguided, self-destructive means of escape. At the risk of getting too heavy here, glib and fancy-free Tony Stark is one seriously self-loathing guy.

honestly tho, low budget plotless avengers shorts are all i could possibly want from marvel right now? we don’t get to see the characters Doing Stuff Between The Action anymore and it’s a huge bummer? and i think it’s especially sad for me as a fan of the iron man movies bc like. the amount of time spent on tony being in the suit in those films is very low and it’s great. he goes to a charity gala as a major moment in im1. he eats a lot of food on camera and bickers with pepper about things that arent just “what do we do next re: the plot and also we don’t like our teammates”
like i know it’s harder to do that when you’ve decided that you need 237 individual characters in each and every film you make, but like. give me peter parker’s stealthily shot cell phone footage of the avengers being friends? clint is pissed off that no one wants to marathon lord of the rings with him again and tony is eating pizza silently in the background in dress pants and a tank top minding his own business and occasionally chuckling. nat stole steve’s sweater. done
Directors: So Tony Stark is this suave, charming business man and we have 18 fine Armani suits for you to choose from in order to properly portray that look.
RDJ: Okay but what about this cat t-shirt I bought at target three months ago,
