eightiesboys:

considering that mbj is a certified anime nerd, i wouldn’t put it past him to have personally brought this up with ryan coogler (aka pestering coogler with pics of vegeta while they’re brainstorming killmonger’s design and saying shit like “come on man you know i’d look buff as hell in a vegeta armor”)

Day 15 | Emotive Scene: T’Challa vs. Killmonger at Warrior Falls

Black Panther
Dir. Ryan Coogler, 2018

This first battle moment between T’Challa and Killmonger was really intense. There’s so many different emotions going on here from watching these two fight and they carry over well from that first confrontation in the throne room when he’s brought in front of the council.

The expressions of pain and fear on Shuri and Ramonda’s faces also made it that much bigger of a contrast from his coronation – shows how much their world is starting to fall apart 😥

#killmonger dropping truth bombs on african exploitation

America had absolutely nothing to do with imperialism in Africa.

Can we also remember, please, that Killmonger was an asshole and a villain and a murderer who supported genocide in modern society? Pretty please?

Remembered.

“America had absolutely nothing to do with imperialism in Africa.” Seriously?

If you mean the Imperialism that occurred in the late 18th century involving several European countries like Germany, France, England, and Portugal (who actually started in the 15th century, but that’s not relevant right now) then you’d still be mistaken. True, America hadn’t even been established as its own country yet. However, it was the English people, coming to what is now known as the United States of America, that went to Africa and took over African lands and enslaved their people and dragged them to the colonies with them. How do you think slaves got here in the first place?

Furthermore, if you don’t count that as American involvement (which how could you not when those white English folks are our ancestors and the people who started this country?), we sure as hell have had a hand in modern day imperialism in Africa. In the course of WWII, the US established several military outposts throughout Africa, primarily in Algeria, Libya, and Liberia. Our presence remained strong there and as the events of WW2 ended, and the Cold War mentality settled in, the US demolished its Council on African Affairs as well as its Civil Rights Congress due to what essentially could be called “mixed feelings” in regards to African liberation.

Skip to 1960, independent African states and several liberation movements attempted to fight back against the US presence in Africa. The US, however, had become a major force in terms of territorial sovereignty. Why? Because the US had overpowered the European supremacy within Africa and had established a dominant presence. They also opened doors for other countries to come in and do the same.

We have taken military action in countries such as Libya (which has a huge oil supply) with wars for regime change. AMISOM (The African Union Mission to Somalia) is a US military operation funded by Washington. Somalia is an oil source. The US backed up French troops in Mali and Niger. After that we established drone stations within Niger. We also struck a deal with France to share Military bases.

There are many more instances in which America has been involved in military and political situations within Africa and I assure you that all of them were for our own benefit. These are just the first ones I could recollect.

The word imperialism means: a policy of extending a country’s power and influence through diplomacy or military force.

We’ve been involved in the imperialism of Africa since before we were even our own country.

If you don’t think that’s true then you need to watch the news and reread some history books because we sure as hell had a hand. Saying we didn’t is incredibly ignorant and arrogant and disrespectful to all those who have suffered because of us.

Thank you for that, Liv.

You wanna talk about America? I’m an American. I was born in Elmhurst Hospital, my parents moved to New York in the 80′s. My parents are neutralized citizens, and I’m U.S native that knows nothing beyond my country.

But when people look at me, despite not having an accent and being fully educated here, people assume I’m trespassing. I don’t belong in the U.S or have the right to be born here because I don’t have fair skin.

“Americans” isn’t a thing. Because the only real Americans are the NATIVE AMERICAN people that European settlers pushed out. Do you remember that genocide? How Europeans came slaughtered thousands of people, wrecked their communities, and stole land that wasn’t theirs to claim?

Don’t talk about “America” because we were born of THEFT. Never fucking forget that.

European settlers SLAUGHTERED people of color and called it the United States.

So fuck you for pretending like you know anything about what actual suffrage feels like. People like YOU are the reason there’s so much conflict.

Look at @peggyelizabeth. She’s a white woman of privilege and she called all of you out, point blank without thinking about it.

“America” is a laughing stock around the world. And if you don’t believe me, do me a favor and start traveling. Nearly every other established westernized country laughs at us – why wouldn’t they? We elected a moron, we’re drowning in racism, the country is so divided that there’s no reasoned argument anymore.

Instead of saying “america is innocent” or saying that Killmonger was wrong for speaking his truth, pick up a book and fucking educate yourself on the reality of the world.

Why don’t you look up police brutality in the u.s? Why don’t you look at multiple cases of racism and hate crime? Why don’t you open your eyes and read about the Nazi parade that happened in
Charlottesville

less than a fucking year ago?

If you think “America” is innocent, you’re a fucking joke.

Also, not at all more important to add than anything that’s above but I just want to let it be noted because Ryan Coogler & Joe Robert Cole delivered nearly a flawless film: this happened in the United Kingdom, literally, Erik was in a british museum telling this to a british woman. I don’t know what possessed user pinneapleismahname to bring up the US (as if the US wasn’t involved in nearly every discussion on this site) but Erik wasn’t talking about the US (though, if he had been, he’d still would’ve been on the right, as pointed above), he was quite literally talking about British Imperialism/Involvement in african explotation + slavery TO a british woman’s face.
