RDJ and Shaun Toub (Yinsen) – “Iron Man”

I know it’s just backstage dorking around but it genuinely looks like what might have happened if Yinsen had survived and Tony had found him in Gulmira and brought him to work for Stark Industries.

Those last four gifs are like:

“It’s a wonderful workshop you’re building here, Stark. Much nicer than the caves.”

“Yeah, it’s a little slice of heaven. It’s yours, by the way.”

*Yinsen’s silent SAY WHAT NOW face*

“You want to come change the world with me, Yinsen?”

Imagine Obie’s rage.

“Robert Downey Jr. wanted to do that (the ‘Demon in a Bottle’ storyline). That’s his favourite Iron Man storyline for obvious reasons. Part of his attraction to the character in the first place was those stories but attitude to their line (of films) was much more upbeat and light-hearted and (Jon) Favareau said, ‘It’ll never get done, it’s way too dark.’ It wasn’t the tone they were going for and I understand that. The scene in Iron Man 2, when he is drunk and out of control at his own party, is there to placate Downey, who wanted to play an out-of-control Tony Stark and I think they wrote that in there to give him a chance to do that. So he could feel like he did a little bit of ‘Demon in a Bottle’.”

Comic book artist/writer/editor BOB LAYTON, on ROBERT DOWNEY JR.’S favorite Iron Man story arc from the comic books. (via iwantcupcakes)

#holy shit this is completely contrary to the story up till now abt them avoiding it bc of obvious reasons#HOLY SHIT#just thinking abt this fucks me up#it wouldn’t have been a good narrative choice and certainly not for this franchise but#ho l y mother of god rdj would have knocked it out the park#type: quote#universe: mcu#character: tony stark#person: robert downey jr#gIVES YOU NEW PERSPECTIVE ON THAT SCENE NOW THOUGH#and like 10000% legitimacy to the readings of mcu tony being a high functional alcoholic

I have been waiting for this answer for 500 years. So many people speculated all the reasons why it wasn’t done:

1) the studios thought it was too dark

2) the actor might not have been comfortable

3) they didn’t have time

This is such a crucial aspect of Tony’s story and to find out that the actor wanted to portray it and they were only willing to give him that small scene in IM2 really bums me out. I get that these are supposed to be fun films but IM2 was the perfect time to explore Tony’s alcoholism, RDJ would have poured his heart into that and t would have meant a lot of the fans that look up to Tony because they see a hero in recovery.

So, I’m majorly bummed. Although, it’s nice to see, once again, how much of Tony’s history RDJ has researched.

They’re pouring latex on him to make a false chest. So that they can place the arc reactor prop in him and make it legitimately look like it’s embedded in is flesh and with tears and scar tissue. The latex is colored so they can see where they are applying and how thick the layers are. It will then be airbrushed to his skintone and details like nipples scar tissue discoloration will be added.

Here’s that picture

Then the reactor prop is added to the dimple. Basically the latex becomes fake skin and they tear part of the center open to embed it.

Now you can see how realistic it looks.

I cannot express enough how much I love little behind the scenes things like this.

they got paid to do this, too…
