Yes, the Accords had problems. Doubtlessly, in the beginning
they were very government-centered and they would have needed provisions in
place to stop the UN from having absolute authority. Tony admits this. He completely agrees when Steve says that
provisions need to be put in place, and he tells Steve that he’s going to work
to make that happen. The fact that the Accords, as they were in the beginning,
apparently had loopholes that allowed Ross to jail Team Cap without a fair
trial is fucked up.
But while Tony fans can admit that the Accords weren’t
perfect, Team Cap fans can’t seem to do the same about Steve’s choice of going
against the Accords totally, with no exception. Steve is portrayed as if he was
absolutely right in going against the Accords. As if the Accords were absolutely
corrupt. The Accords that were a document created by the officials of 117
countries, countries with elected officials.
They don’t seem to see what they are turning Steve into.
They are turning Steve into a Nice Guy™. Into a colonist.
Into that guy that goes: “Oh, hey all of you POC dominated countries with your
POC officials. Don’t worry about the rules that the officials, which you depend
on for your voice in such matters, make. I’m going to come save you all! No
matter what your opinion is in the matter.”
Because fact is? Steve coming into countries that are
predominately white, and lead by white people, without their permission or any
respect for their laws is bad enough. (Especially when those countries also
have POC that depend on the officials for their voice.) But Steve doing this to
predominately POC countries, countries that have already had white people try
to tell them what to do for centuries? That’s fucked up.
And don’t try to tell me that the people should tell Steve
to leave themselves, then. Again, the lower class people within a country
depend on the officials of their country to be their voice. Very few of them
are going to march up to a man that could kill them and tell that man to get
out. And even for the few that do ask that, in a way? Well, we’ve seen them in the
comics, and even a little in the movies. Those few are viewed as just harshly
judgmental people by the heroes, ones who don’t ‘understand’ that the Heroes™
are just trying to save them. Those people are easily ignored for the adoring
fanboys and fangirls that actually aren’t scared of showing up and fawning over
the heroes. Those voices aren’t loud enough to be heard.
Officials have voices that should be loud enough to be
heard. But Steve Rogers heard those voices, and effectively told them to shut
up without bothering to really listen. Without bothering to consider what they
were trying to say.
And the fact that a large amount of fandom can act like there
is absolutely nothing wrong with that concerns me. It concerns me a lot.
okay guys y’all know I’m the biggest tony stark stan so no hate but uh
can stans stop pretending they’re superior by going thru the anti tag? it’s an anti tag for a reason. they’re not deliberately tagging for discourse anymore, they’re actually keeping in their own goddamn lane
unless they come at you, ignore them. listen, we can’t all like the same peeps. let them be bitter and just enjoy the positivity tags, it’s what they are there for
Sometimes, I don’t understand this fandom. One thing about Marvel is that all the alternate universes show us options of “what could have been”.
MCU Tony is this guy:
Not a perfect man by any means, but a man who made sacrifices, put his life on the line for others, acknowledged his mistakes and wants to do the right thing.
Somehow, this man has been turned into a villain.
But you know what? In another universe, there IS an ACTUAL VILLAIN Tony Stark. Sort of.
Superior Iron Man. Tony, as he would be, with no moral compass.
There’s even an episode in Earth’s Mightiest Heroes where Tony takes over the world.
The funny thing is… Both instances are under brainwashing. Because if Tony WERE in fact an ACTUAL VILLAIN, the world would be in big trouble. And apparently, Marvel hasn’t come up with a method to come up with a method to make Tony evil without brainwashing. (Given the way things are going right now, I’m not holding my breath on whether or not this will continue).
Honestly, after all that’s been going on, I have the not-so-secret desire to see Tony go Superior Iron Man on their asses.
Also, I would not mind if Superior Iron Man was resurrected to kick Hydra Cap’s ass. Because what even. Get that shit out of my face. We can all agree on that one, I think.
“I don’t want to die, I just don’t want to exist any more” sounds mild if you’ve never experienced it, but it is in fact a horrible, violent way to feel.
If your show/book/comic/media is telling me, “these are the good guys so the things they do are good” as opposed to showing me that “these are the good guys because they do good things” we have a problem
I’m re-watching, The Avengers and I have to comment on this:
In the beggining of the movie, Clint is shown as a smart and badass agent right ? I mean when Fury asked him what he observed from his “nest”, Clint commented that whatever was happening, was coming from the other side of the Tesseract. His observation skills are really great and he’s smart so he can process information easily and more, right ?
Then, can Marvel explain to me why in the hell, would he, a smart and observant man, decide to leave his family’s side and get out of retirement, WITHOUT processing any information, other than “Cap called” ???
He is portrayed as smart/observant in The Avengers, then he becomes the Family man in AOU, which okay I can accept, and then suddenly in CW he is neither of those ? Suddenly he’s not smart and observant anymore ? Suddenly he doesn’t have a family worth of considering his consequences ?
You know what I love abt this fandom?? The fact that if these situations were irl, yall would be advocating for the exact opposite of what you’re saying about Civil War.
Because do you really think people in positions of power should just… decide they don’t want to be held accountable?? Decide that they think they’re above 117 countries and should just keep Doing Their Own Thing despite all these people saying they want change?? Would you still support them if this was, say, your Police Department??
Would you find it acceptable if you, as a civilian, we’re just travelling down the highway one day, when suddenly a ‘police officer’ smashed your car window, then threw you out of the car into the middle of a busy highway in order to chase after his friend? Would you think it was cool then??
Would you stick by them as they all met up together in an airport that only one of the police officers (coughtonycough) had been wise enough to evacuate, and then trash the whole place whilst making the richest police officer who had been trying to stop them pay for their damages when they ran away??)
Would you be okay with one of the Police Officers actually throwing and beating up civilians on a stairwell so that he could get his pal out to safety??
And I just laugh because you know you wouldn’t. If the police force decided hey didn’t want to follow the wishes of 117 countries, and then all just ran away and continued to do their own thing when you tried to argue with them, you’d be up in arms!!!! You’d be so fucking furious that your rights as a civilian had just been removed like that!!! And I’m screaming because that is exactly what cap did!!!!!!!!
He decided that he was above everyone else. He decided that the team didn’t need to follow rules and that, as long as they were ‘good people’, they could continue to do whatever the fuck they wanted. He was the one who took Wanda out of a bad situation, only to make it and her offenses even worse, all the while insisting to Tony that ‘she’s just a kid!’)
Yall insist that the police officers are held responsible when they kill someone, call it neglect or misconduct or whatever- and yet refuse to think about all the damage the avengers have done??? Hilarious.
Yup. Didn’t Chris Evans have an interview where he said if Civil War happened in the real world, he would be Team Iron Man, with the comment, “you pretty much have to be, right?”
But we like our power fantasies of no nonsense heroes who skip all the red tape and corruption to bring down the bad guys by doing whatever it takes. We want to cheer for Dirty Harry and Jack Bauer and not think about what those tactics have actually meant in the real world.
And ya know, to some extent, I’m willing to say, “it’s fantasy, you do you.” Dream about the world where someone beats the truth out of the kidnapper, punches all the nazis and never picks the wrong guy to torture for information. BUT! Either leave reality out entirely, or accept what it means. Don’t give us a representative of accountability and consequences only to strawman them into either a tool of evil or a hopeless bureaucrat who “doesn’t understand the stakes!”
If your favorite fantasy has a run in with reality, have the intellectual honesty to say, “Yeah, objectively they are wrong, and it wouldn’t be acceptable in the real world, but I enjoy my escapism where I pretend that perfect heroes can exist, and are the only ones with these powers, and they fix everything that I hate.” Don’t try to tell me it’s actually RIGHT.
Blames the Tony Stark for the dead of her parents even when he wasn’t there and most likely had nothing directly to do with the event.
Uses Tony Stark’s mental illness and fears as a weapon to destroy the Avengers.
Joins Ultron.
Uses the Hulk in an innocent city without seeming to care about the consequences.
Tells Steve that Tony is the one who is going to destroy the world when she is the one who did the previous action mentioned.
Is made an Avenger immediately after helping just one time. Never apologises to anyone that she attacked.
Feels guilty about a failed mission in Lagos but never speaks about her previous bad deeds.
Is upset about being punished by that when she has more dirty clothes in her closet.
Helmut Zemo:
Blames the Avengers for the dead of his family in a case of collateral damage.
Bombs a UN building in plan to frame the Winter Soldier without thinking about the consequences.
Uses Tony Stark mental illness and trauma as a time bomb to destroy the Avengers.
Actually apologies to the man whose father killed.
Stays calm and no whining at all about the consequences and accepts them because he succeeded.
Accepts his actual actions.
?????????????????????
Most points are so similar aren’t they? Then why exactly Zemo is not an Avenger too? Wasn’t he also a grieving man because the death of his family, which is exactly the excuse that everyone uses on Wanda for every shitty thing that she does, including freaking Johannesburg?
Mirror actions. Different genders/age. Totally different endings.
Can I call the hypocrisy of this fandom more?
Guys, PLEASE PLEASE tag this as anti wanda maximoff of Wanda Maximoff is better as a villain, I’m sick of her stans defending her in an anti post.
