salazarastark:

do you ever just sit back and think about the fact that valkyrie goes by valkyrie when that’s not even her name? it’s brunnhilde and yet that is never mentioned in thor: ragnorok. on sakaar she’s merely a job and a number (scrapper 142). it’s not until thor recognizes her as a valkyrie that she becomes known as one, and then she just takes the name for herself.

she becomes valkyrie. and maybe that’s because she’s not going to fight for asgard and against hela as brunnhilde. she’s going as all the ones who became before her, all her sister’s who died before her. she is all of these women in the body of one.

and maybe on that ship with the asgardian refugees that survived thanos, struggling as the leader that she’s forgotten how to be, she sees little girls and teenage girls and mothers and grandmothers and soft girls and hard girls and some who know they are girls in secret even if no one else does watching her. and maybe she decides to teach them what it means to be a valkyrie. and maybe she then realizes that she is not the only valkyrie left, not anymore.

and then maybe she becomes brunnhilde again, because maybe she doesn’t have to bear the name alone anymore.

hardcore inspired by this post here are some Hulk/Valkyrie things

  • Bruce is 1000000000% in love with her, from the MOMENT he sees her on Sakaar
  • it takes these losers. over a week. to realize they don’t?? actually??? know each other’s names
  • and then of course Bruce stumbles over his name like an IDIOT. “I’m Brunner. I mean Branner. I mean. Doctor, I’m a doctor. Doctor Bruce. Bruce Banner.”
  • “Doctor Bruce Bruce Banner?”
  • she hakes his hand and then stumbles over her own name. “I’m—Brunnhilde.” because she hasn’t been Brunnhilde in years. She’s been Scrapper 142, or The Asgardian, or no one at all, in particular.
  • part of her aches, then, with all the things she’s lost.
  • for the remainder of their trip to earth, Bruce tries to come up with a nickname for her, because Brunnhilde is a mouthful, and she rolls her eyes at him every time he says it
  • (internally, Bruce swoons. do Valkyries have last names? what’s hers? do they have the same initials??????)
  • “I can’t just call you angry girl!”
  • “Why not?”
  • Bruce is flustered for three days after that. He gets flustered very easily around her. Thor thinks it is hilarious.
  • “She’s so powerful and strong and beautiful, Thor! What did she mean?”
  • Hildy gets discarded. So does Run, Bru, and Brunny-hunny, though that one was just in Bruce’s head.
  • she shakes her head when he suggests Val
  • she doesn’t really like being called “Valkyrie” because it reminds her that she’s the only one left, but she takes it, she takes it as a command and hammers her pain into a different kind of armor. if she’s the only Valkyrie left, then she’s got to be the greatest representation of what they were
  • the Hulk doesn’t have these problems. she’s “angry girl”. occasionally “my angry girl”
  • but anyway
  • when she’s not fighting for the fate of the world, spending time with Bruce is nice, because he doesn’t expect anything in particular from her
  • it’s like everything she was and is can blend together with him. her humor and fear and anger and passion and her newfound faith that is growing, reaching for the sun–Bruce just takes her as she is
  • because she takes him as he is. Hulk or Banner. She likes them both. they both like her
  • and Bruce isn’t afraid!
  • what is it that Korg says? Asgardians are hard to perish.
  • Bruce doesn’t think he or the Hulk would ever try to hurt Brunnhilde, but even if he did, he doesn’t think he could.
  • also, he threw himself out of a plane for her. he stopped fighting the big monster for her
  • (the Hulk is still a little salty about that, but like. anything for his angry girl)
  • when they get to earth Tony makes a lot of comments about Bruce being too old for her
  • Brunnhilde laughs so hard her beer comes out her nose
